North Wales Power and Sail Motor Cruiser Training
Gain knowledge,skill and confidence to enjoy the water in safety.

Train and cruise onboard M-V-Verity, a former Trinity House Pilot Boat.   

Our cruising area for tuition purposes is from Deganwy Quays Marina, around the coast of Anglesey together with the Menai Straits.  

Longer passages are possible for Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore training.  

Day trips, corporate hospitality, RYA mile building and cruising to the Isle of Man, Ireland and the Western Isles of Scotland. P.O.A.

RYA course fees cover costs of training, food, fuel and marina berthing.

We can supply waterproof clothing but it is recommended that you bring along your own warm windproof garments and boots

that do not mark the deck.     

Motor Cruiser 'Verity'

For those wishing to train on a twin shaft monohull  'Verity' offers a well proved design and very seaworthy Nelson 40.

This vessel has cruised extensively , is easy to handle and is an excellent training vessel for all levels of experience.

            RYA Helmsman Course

Course Duration:

2 days

Experience Need:

For newcomers to motor cruisers or new boat owners with little experience

Qualification:

RYA Practical Helmsman course completion certificate

Course Content:

Boat handling safety and man overboard

Price:

£425



 International Certificate of Competence

Course Duration: 2 days or 1 day assessment
Experience Need: Limited time spent on a motor cruiser
Qualification: The RYA International Certificate of Compentance
Course Content: Regulatory safety, buoyage, lights and shapes, tides and streams, basic navigation together with a boat handling test.
Price: £425 for two days + test, £300 for one day assessment.

 

Day Skipper Practical
Course Duration: 4 days
Experience Need: Some shore based theory would be useful but not essential.
Qualification: RYA Day Skipper Practical Course completion certificate

Course Content:

The course is intended to give people the confidence to take their own craft to sea in good conditions and in the hours of daylight.    The course covers boat handling, rules of the road, safety, pilotage, meteorology, use of engines, coastal navigation and night cruising.

Price: £850

 

RYA/MCA Coastal  RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper Certificate of Competence
Course Duration: 5 days
Experience Need: A minimum sea time of 30 days and a minimum of 800 sea miles, 12 night hours and skipper experience for 2 days.    You must hold a current VHF qualification and first-aid certificate.
Qualification: RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper Power

Course Content:

An advanced course aimed at the skipper who wishes to build on existing skills and techniques.     The RYA appoints an independent examiner and the exam takes place on the last day of the course.   A separate exam fee is payable to the RYA. A course completion certificate is available to those who do not wish to take the RYA/MCA examination.

RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore. Preparation for theCertificate of Competence

Course  Duration:

5 days
Experience Need: A minimum of 50 days sea time including 5 as skipper, and a total of 2500 miles completed. 5 passages over 60 miles including 2 overnight and 2 as skipper.    A VHF licence is required together with a current first-aid certificate.
Qualification: RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Power
Course Content:

The examinable course is aimed at the experienced skipper. Course covers all the skippering techniques necessary for offshore passages.    A separate exam fee is payable to the RYA.

£1050   RYA examiners fee is extra

Own Boat Tuition
All the RYA courses can be conducted on your own boat.  The vessel must be equipped to the minimum RYA safety standard and be suitable for the possible wind and sea conditions in the area.
